About Threema Private
Threema Private is a messenger for private users from Switzerland. Versions exist for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, and it can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. All messages are end-to-end encrypted.
The client apps for phones and desktops are released under the AGPL-3.0 licence, whereas the server software that forwards and stores messages stays proprietary. As encryption and decryption only happen on the users' devices, the server cannot read content, which reduces what the closed server code can affect. Switzerland belongs to Europe but not to the EU.
